Description Up for auction is a very fine handmade German viola.  These Roth instruments are highly sought after for their great tone.  Label inside reads "Model R44E162, Scherl & Roth, Antonius Stradivarius Design, Made in Germany, Adjusted in Elkhart, Indiana, USA.  11/96 16 1/2"."  This is a very nice big viola.  Hard to find in a 16 1/2.  This model was near the best model made.  Very fine, even and tight grain spruce top.  Well figured and flamed maple back sides and neck.  Premium ebony fittings (pegs, fingerboard, nut, saddle, endbutton).  Ebony tailpiece with parisian eye.  This viola has a big robust deep tone.  Big sound and great tone.  It has had a crack repaired on the top about seven years ago.  See pic.  From the f hole down.  Not in a bad tension place on the instrument.  Will not be a problem, just astethic.  Had Thomastik Dominant strings on it and could use a fresh set soon.  Does not need anything but to be enjoyed.  Has a few nicks on the edges and such but very nice condition and plays great.  One owner and $1400 was paid for it in 1997 (which would be a bit more now).  Great instrument, dont miss this great Roth with big sound.  Will start the auction super low at only $400 and will sell to the highest bidder, NO reserve.  Viola only.  Ship/packing/box is $24.95 in the 48 states.  email gatch@cfl.rr.com for questions.
