There are NO DEFECTS (cracks-chips-knicks ETC.) I bought it from a lady who had purchased it in the mid-60's for her daughter who played a little on it for a month and then it was put away in the CASE and placed on a shelf until now. The case has a KEY. This was made in Italy and assembled in the USA. The sound seems to be perfect but I must tell you I know nothing about music.
