This instrument is wooden and I'm not 100% sure but it looks to be made of ebony. it has 6 holes with a 7th hole that has a key and pad that covers it. When we purchased this flute it had with it a letter that was dated from the late 1800's and we believe the flute to be from the same era. I have been told that it was German made with silver rings and key. There is no case included in this auction but don't worry we will pack it with care. I think that this is a simple system piccolo. It has a cylindrical head with a reverse tapered body. I believe that it is in the key of Bb (A#). Here is a list of the notes you get if you start with all holes covered and remove one finger at a time starting with the one furthest from the head: C, D, Eb, E, Gb, Ab, & Bb. This piccolo has a brass sleeve in the head. There is one joint at the head. It has recently been repaired by our in-house brass and woodwind technician. There was a crack in the head section that he fixed by installing pins. He also replaced the pad & cork and gave it a full playing test. There is also an older repair in the body that has been pinned in the past. This piccolo is fully playable and it has a wonderful, earthy tone even though the pitches are relatively high. Beautiful instruments like this one are few and far between anymore. You could pay a custom instrument maker thousands to make you one of these babies, or you could pick this up for a song.
