Description
Great old Moennig Brothers bassoon. I've played on this instrument for several years, but have recently moved up to a professional model. I contacted the maker (now part of Adler) when I purchased the bassoon. At that time they told me that the bassoon was made in the mid 60's, but that most of their records from that time had been destroyed as a result of the cold war, and they really couldn't say much more than that. The instrument has a beautiful tone, and is very even from bottom Bb all the way up to the top. It has a high D key. No high E, but I've never had a problem getting up that high for the Ravel Piano Concerto, I just use the long fingering. Cosmetically, the bassoon is in poor condition. Much of the finish has been worn off as a result of time, and there are several knicks and scratches in the wood, none of which impede the sound or function of the instrument. The seal on the joints and pads is extremely good. The instrument was last serviced by the same repairman who adjusts my current setup (who I know and trust). I have played this instrument for members of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, and several other major ensembles, as well as in venues around New York including Carnegie Hall, and the response to the instrument has been very good.Included with the instrument:- Puchner Bocal- Hard Case in GREAT shape. (Only parting with this because I'm using a backpack case now.)- Leather Case Cover with large pocket big enough for music (even orchestra parts)This is a WONDERFUL deal on a very good student model instrument!
