The serial number is 15288, which dates it to 1988-1989. The instrument is in excellent shape. It has been well taken care of and has been thoroughly examined by a bassoon specialist outside of New York City. All needed repair and replacement has been done, including work to restore the U-tube to its original condition. (short of replacing it.)  I have also had a right hand whisper key lock and a Bb key guard added. (see pictures) There is some key tarnishing which is due to normal playing over the course of 20 years. The case is somewhat scuffed, but is in great shape otherwise. The latches all work perfectly and the bassoon fits into the case snugly. Included is a Fox model 1 C bocal. The bocal is in good shape, with one small ding just above the cork. (see pictures) This bassoon plays quite well and has a rich tone with even intonation throughout the range of the instrument. It would be perfect for an advanced high school player, a first year college student, or a doubler who does not want to spend a small fortune for a third or fourth double in the pit.
