This "hybrid" instrument was built with the same Italian CIRESA sound board found in Fazioli pianos, along with the same burl poplar inner rim veneer. The sound board in a piano acts as a speaker, amplifying the string vibration and giving the piano its power. This sound board comes from the same forest, in Northern Italy, where Stradivarius went to choose the wood for his violins. This "Abete Rosso", or red spruce, is well known for its resonance and very tight grain but is also in very limited supply. On top of the sound board and the rim veneer, the full Renner action has had an additional 3 days of preparation, including regulation, keys and hammers leveling, plus extensive voicing.
